Five Point Someone -- Chetan Bhagat

A very popular novel written by an IITian himself, Chetan Bhagat.
As the title itself is inclusive of, the book is certainly not to help one get into an IIT. In fact, the author has truly described how things can go wrong and messed up if one is not attentive enough. The book begins with the story of how three boys into mechanical engineering named Hari, Ryan and Alok meet up and become the closest of buddies. The author chose to tell the story through Hari's point of view. As the story progresses, the trio discover that it's not always a bed of roses at the best institution of the country. They go through mugging up for classes, making notes, preparing for vivas, and not to forget that surprise quiz which is always round the corner.
As if coping up with all was not enough, these three have obviously got some things of their own too. Alok's family is not a very well off one also his dad is paralyzed and in the hospital now. The only working member is his mother which means it's more than necessacery for Alok to get a good job. Ryan has some issues with his parents and is reluctant to open up about them. Hari is now seemingly interested in a professor's daughter, Neha!!! The story takes a good sharp turn as they realize that they are mere 'five-pointers' and need to work a lot harder.
Presuming its going to be dead difficult, the trio came up with a mission which aims at leaking of the question papers from one of the offices. They are caught red handed stealing the papers. In the end after loads of punishment and wasting many months from their lives, each one of them in the end is established nicely. Alok got a good job and Hari joined a company in Bombay. Ryan got to work as a RA with one of the professors.
A must read for all, takes the reader through an outstanding roller-coaster of human emotions.
